Of course not. I think your gun laws are absolutely stupid. I'm just saying strict gun laws aren't going to stop committed terrorists.

They just weren't very good at it. It also suggests they weren't working alone.

And just to be clear mentor - you'd be ok with them being able to buy assault rifles in the uk because it's also possible to make a home-made bomb - that's your argument right?

So these two fruit-loops fully expected to walk free from their shenanigans and plant pipe bombs elsewhere?

Something doesn't ring right here. Any terrorist worth his salt would have already planted those bombs before setting off on a suicide mission.

Re: Another mass shooting
What about the home made pipe bombs? These two intended carnage and would have carried it out if your gun laws were strict.

Mentor - so you'd be ok with any of the extremists in Britain being able to wander into their their local Tesco and pick up an AR-15 and a couple of thousand rounds?

I mean gun laws have nothing to do with it.

Re: Another mass shooting
This has got nothing to do with gun laws. It is all to do with allowing a breed of people who follow a religion which is incompatible with the cultural, social and legal fabric of your country, to live amongst you. After all, here in England our gun laws are relatively strict, but that hasn't stopped cowardly scumbag muslims from bringing death to innocent people.

There's no way the gop could vote to that with an election year coming. They've created the situation though with the foam-at-the-mouth anti government ranting about the liberals wanting to become hitter-like dictators.

Hardly surprising, given the constitution is over 200 years old.

In the wake of the latest mass shooting I'm astounded there was a 'no' vote on the latest gun law change.

That shows you how fucked up the political system is here.

Re: Another mass shooting

But isn't that the point. Yanks are able to take someone else's idea, commercialize it and take it to the masses, making shit loads and potentially changing the world significantly (admittedly probably not always for the better).

Take fracking, the idea was there, the opportunity was there, and the capital, the resources, the skills and workforce support to transform the energy industry in a few years.

Apple - what, six or seven years ago I randomly joined a line at the Apple Store to get one of the first iPhones. Few years later they are brining massive changes everywhere through commerce, transportation, photography....

It's built around consensus and no one having contol. As party lines harden it becomes possible for the minority to block the majority,

So a minority of people in congress can effectively shut it down, or for example, bring the government to a halt.

A majority of people in America favor some degree of tighter restrictions on guns, yet the rabid NRA crowd are able to shut this down.

Steve Jobs made my phone personally. He was doing research into building an iSupercar, so the Mafia had him murdered.

Sad, but true.

Really? In IT, since the 1970s, the septics simply raped and pillaged areas where they couldn't compete on a level playing field using a "last man standing" philosophy.

Microsoft is/was cheap underwhelming technology that only succeeded because it mimicked 3rd world birth control methodology, Apple was built around a microprocessor of Italian design.

Even the majority of Americans are not of American heritage: their forefathers simply "cleansed" - or allowed to be "cleansed" - the country of it's indigenous peoples and only slowed down that process following a massive guilt trip.

If what are now called "Americans" were that good at stuff, given the resources available, they'd be the best at EVERYTHING, not just waging war wherever they stuck their unwelcome nose.

Who MADE your computer? Your mobile phone? Your TV? The world's most popular cars? Not the badge they carry, where they were actually made and by whom.

The wife was born in Pakistan and was living in Saudi. Are we allowed to question the role of Saudi yet in all this?

Interesting point by the BBC correspondent Frank Gardner on the news last night about the categories of terrorists. We range from full on soldiers like the guy heading up the Paris massacre to guys like the Lee Rigby killers who were known to police due to the meetings and company they were keeping and now we are in category 3.
Seemingly suburban husbands and wives with no known IS connections who are sitting quietly and will one day rise up and kill as many people as they can.
Anyone want to take a guess at how many of those reside in the UK?
I noticed the wife in this case posted something on Facebook (albeit under another name ) in support of IS. Who saw that & who reported that ?
Seemingly no one before the case and if they did no one acted on it.
As a check can you imagine if you turned round and posted something on your Facebook in support of the Nazi's or the KKK how long before you got some police attention.
